Description We have in preferential order a Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist post vacant within the Histology department based at Queen’s Hospital, Romford. We will consider appointing an experienced band 5 BMS who has relevant recent experience working within the singular discipline of Histology.

The department receives 40,000 patient episodes(requests) per annum amounting to 70,000 plus specimens from a full range of care group specialties. For this post you must be HCPC registered, have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology (equivalence- 8 years recent experience working as a BMS in Histology) for the Band 6 role. You must be HCPC registered with recent working experience in a routine histology laboratory for the band 5 role.

You must be currently working in a routine histology laboratory with experience of work in this field as a necessity. You should be friendly, professional, and pro-active, self-motivating, innovative and be able to demonstrate excellent communication (verbal and written), organisation and manual dexterity skills. You need to demonstrate a patient focused approach to work and detail how you are committed to continual improvement of self, the service, and your team. The department operates Monday to Friday but will move to seven day working in the summer of 2025.
This post is based at Queens Hospital, but all staff must be prepared to work at King George Hospital if required.

Band 5 Salary: £34,521 to £41,956pa Inclusive of HCA

The post holder will perform the scientific investigations required in the Department of Histology under the direction of the senior Biomedical Scientists. Delegated duties may include supervision of trainees, an involvement in training, quality and or health and safety.
The purpose of the role is to support the diagnostic service provided by the department to the trust.

Patients across north east London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It’ll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
